Why it matters
- Plain pumpkin is a common home remedy vets suggest for mild digestive upset, thanks to its fiber content.
- Pumpkin pie filling is a completely different product β itβs spiced and sweetened, and can include nutmeg (see βNutmegβ).
- Plain canned pumpkin (100% pumpkin, no additives) is an easy, shelf-stable way to keep some on hand.
Serving tips
- Add a small spoonful of plain canned pumpkin or cooked pumpkin to their regular food.
- Double-check the can label says β100% pumpkinβ and not βpumpkin pie filling.β
