💤 SleepDogs & Cats

Is it normal if my pet sleeps all day?

Many pets sleep a lot — but context matters.

Educational only (not medical advice). If changes are sudden or your pet seems unwell, consult a veterinarian.

Why it happens

  • Normal pet sleep can be 12–16 hours/day (and sometimes more for cats or seniors).
  • Boredom: not enough enrichment leads to “sleeping the day away.”
  • Heat/humidity can reduce daytime activity.
  • Life stage: puppies/kittens and seniors rest more.

What to try (low-risk)

  • Add 2 short play bursts (5–10 mins) daily.
  • Try food puzzles or treat scatters.
  • Give a window perch / sniff walks (dogs).
  • Track patterns for 3–7 days (energy, appetite, toileting).

When to get help

These are “extra caution” signals — especially if new or sudden.

  • Sudden big change from their usual baseline.
  • Sleepiness + low appetite or unusual bathroom habits.
  • Seems weak, disoriented, or in discomfort.

You’re not overreacting. If your gut says something is off, it’s okay to consult a veterinarian.
