Why it matters

Avocado contains persin, which is more of a concern for birds and some livestock than for dogs and cats — but it’s still not a food they need.
The bigger practical risk is the large pit, which is a choking and intestinal blockage hazard.
Avocado flesh is also high in fat, which can upset a sensitive stomach or contribute to pancreatitis in larger amounts.

Serving tips

If you share a small amount of plain flesh, keep it occasional and pit/skin-free.
Never let a pet near the pit or skin — those are the real danger here.
